About the Role

Faena The Red Sea is not just a destination – it’s a living, breathing experience that blends art, nature, and world-class hospitality. As we prepare to open our doors, we are seeking an innovative and detail-driven Chief Engineer to lead the engineering and maintenance operations of this groundbreaking property.

Key Responsibilities:

• The Chief Engineer will develop and execute a comprehensive engineering strategy for the entire Faena District, aligning with organizational goals and sustainability initiatives. This leadership role oversees all engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, efficiency, and guest satisfaction across all district properties.

• Develop and implement an engineering strategy aligned with the Faena District’s goals and sustainability objectives.

• Create, manage, and present the annual capital budget, prioritizing capital improvements, infrastructure upgrades, and major equipment replacements.

• Provide detailed financial projections and ROI analysis for capital projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

• Collaborate with senior leadership and department heads to prioritize and execute capital projects and preventative maintenance plans.

• Lead and inspire the engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

• Oversee daily engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring all systems, equipment, and facilities operate at peak performance.

• Establish and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain quality, efficiency, and safety standards.

• Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with local codes, regulations, and Forbes 5-star standards.

• Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team of managers, technicians, and contractors.

• Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to promote professional growth and team excellence.

• Develop and maintain succession plans to ensure continuity of expertise.

• Prepare and manage the engineering department’s annual budget with focus on cost control and financial accountability.

• Analyze financial performance to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost reductions.

• Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement of engineering supplies and services.

• Champion energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives, implementing technologies and best practices that reduce environmental impact.

• Continuously evaluate and recommend innovative solutions to enhance building performance and guest experience.

• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to health, safety, fire, and environmental standards.

• Develop and implement emergency preparedness and response plans for the district.

• Ensure the engineering team is fully trained and certified in applicable safety procedures.

Qualifications

• A degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field); professional certifications or a master’s degree are a plus.

• 5–7 years of engineering leadership experience in high-end hospitality environments, ideally with exposure to iconic or design-driven properties.

• Proven success in pre-opening or opening hotel projects, with the ability to build systems, processes, and teams from the ground up.

• Deep knowledge of MEP, HVAC, building automation systems, and energy management strategies.

• Strong track record in budgeting, cost control, and vendor management, with a focus on long-term efficiency and sustainability.

• Excellent understanding of regulatory compliance, including health, safety, fire codes, and environmental standards—both local and international.

• A collaborative leadership style, with the ability to inspire and mentor a diverse engineering team.

• Solutions-focused mindset with strong troubleshooting and crisis management skills.

• Clear, confident communicator who can build partnerships across departments and with external contractors.

• A drive for continuous improvement, always staying ahead of trends in engineering technology and luxury service standards.
