TEST ENGINEER COOP

Duration 6 months, 40 hours/week M-F, 1st shift 100% ONSITE.  

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Test Development Engineer Co-op to join our dynamic operations team. The ideal candidate will assist in the design, development, and implementation of testing processes and equipment to ensure product quality and reliability. This is an excellent opportunity for a student pursuing an engineering degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Job Description

The Test Development Engineering (TDE) team provides technical expertise to numerous manufacturing and development programs at Axcelis Technologies. Our work involves the support and test of electro-mechanical parts, subsystems, and full modules used on Ion Implanters.

As a Test Engineer Coop at Axcelis you will work under the direction of a senior engineer to design, develop, and implement methods for testing, troubleshooting, and monitoring products under development and in full rate production. You will learn to read and understand mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and complex test specs. Using a senior engineer as a mentor, you will identify a test gap, propose corrective action, and implement the required changes. 

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Assist in the development and validation of test procedures for new and existing products.

  • Design and build test fixtures/assets and automated test systems.

  • Collaborate with design, production, and quality teams to identify testing requirements.

  • Analyze data to drive issues to root cause, troubleshoot failures, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Maintain and improve existing test equipment and software.

  • Document test procedures, results, and equipment maintenance.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing process.

  • Generate engineering change orders on technical issues related to the production test process

  • Develop and execute improvement projects to increase first pass yield, decrease cycle time, or reduce cost 

  • Engage in cross-functional improvement activities such as Kaizen events and standard work process discussions

Qualifications

  • Strong technical skills and ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Displays logical and methodical problem-solving skills

  • Exposure to common lab tools such as o-scopes, multimeters, and hand tools

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

  • Familiarity with NI LabVIEW or NI TestStand is a plus

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote)

  • A continuous improvement mindset to enhance manufacturing test methods through process modernization

  • Familiarity with automated test equipment and data acquisition systems.

  • Hands-on experience with soldering, wiring, crimping, and mechanical assembly.

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE

$20.00 - $24.00

This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.

Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on

multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work

location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as

you develop within the role.

Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the

Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular

employees working 20+ hours a week).
