As a Fibre optic engineer, you will perform your duties on existing and new build networks. This will include internal and external works.<\/span> <\/span><\/span>
<\/span><\/p>

Engineers will carry out their duties in line with engineering specifications as defined by the client.<\/span>

Responsibilities and duties<\/span><\/i><\/b>
<\/span><\/p>

  • Install, terminate and test on all fibre optic cable types -SM - 8 core up to 432 core fibre cables.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Advanced Fibre optic testing - OTDR/ILM/CD/PMD/IOLM/PON<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Installation of enclosures, couplers, ODF’s and cabinets.<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Execution and Maintenance/fault finding on new or existing fibre optic infrastructure.<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/span><\/li>
  • In constant communication with the Project Manager to assist with completion of fibre works.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • The usage of plant, materials, care of tools and equipment in a way to minimize unnecessary waste and damage.<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/li>
  • Adherence to all health and safety practises<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/span><\/li>
  • Ensure to bring sufficient hardware & tools out to site each day.<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/span><\/li>
  • Ensure all daily reporting, fibre characterization and documentation is mailed to the Project Manager daily.<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/span><\/li>
  • Identify quality problems and recommend solutions. Report back to Project Manager any compliance issues.<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/span><\/li>
  • Understand the Safety & Environmental Policies ensure all activities carried out complies with the risk assessment and method statements.<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/span><\/li>
  • Ensure adherence to safe working practices at all times.<\/span><\/span>
    <\/span><\/span><\/li>
  • Must have good understanding of the principles of fibre optic networks.<\/span><\/span><\/span>

    • OTDR Experience - EXFO, CMA NETTEST, ANRITSU, NOYES or similar.<\/span><\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Fusion splicing - Fujikura 60s, 70s or similar.<\/span><\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Experience with Fibre optics products.<\/span><\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Worked on live or newbuild networks.<\/span><\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Read and understand technical diagrams.<\/span><\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Understand written work instructions.<\/span><\/span>
      <\/span><\/li>
    • Ability to use computer applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Visio and to learn new computer skills where required.<\/span>
