About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join Nicholas O’Dwyer’s Infrastructure Department and support the design and delivery of major civil infrastructure projects across Ireland and the UK.

The successful candidate will have a strong Structural Engineering background with demonstrable experience in the design, coordination and delivery of infrastructure projects. You will contribute across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and preliminary design through detailed design, procurement, construction and handover.

This is a key technical and project delivery role within Nicholas O’Dwyer, offering the opportunity to work on significant infrastructure projects while contributing to the continued growth and reputation of the Infrastructure Department.

We are seeking candidates experienced in the water industry and specifically liquid retaining tanks and structures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the structural design and delivery of infrastructure projects from feasibility and concept development through detailed design and construction support.
  • Develop safe, efficient and buildable structural solutions involving reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, foundations and retaining structures.
  • Undertake structural analysis and calculations and oversee the preparation of design drawings, specifications, technical reports and tender documentation.
  • Coordinate internal and external design resources and work closely with civil, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical and environmental specialists.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable Eurocodes, British Standards, Irish and UK requirements, client standards and health and safety obligations.
  • Manage structural work packages, programmes, budgets, resources, risks and deliverables to achieve time, cost and quality objectives.
  • Participate in client, stakeholder and design coordination meetings, providing clear technical advice and resolving design issues.
  • Provide technical support during procurement and construction, including responding to technical queries and reviewing contractor submissions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, graduates and technicians.
  • Maintain high standards of technical quality, responsive client service, sustainability and continuous improvement.

Key Requirements

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng, BSc, MEng or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership or professional registration with ECSA or another recognised professional body.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ relevant structural engineering experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, foundations and retaining structures.
  • Experience delivering structural projects from concept development through detailed design and construction support.
  • Strong knowledge of recognised structural design codes and the ability to apply Eurocodes and British Standards. Previous Irish or UK project experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and internal and external design resources.
  • Strong communication, leadership, project-management and client-facing skills.
  • Proficiency in structural design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, Tedds, Autodesk Robot, MasterSeries or similar.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining programme, budget and design-quality requirements.
