Engineering Manager

A market-leading manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join their company in Hammarsdale, KZN. This is a rare opportunity to join a top-tier brand known for its continuous capital investment, innovation, and strong focus on engineering excellence. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge, strong leadership, and a track record of managing plant maintenance and engineering teams in high-output FMCG or processing environments.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day plant maintenance, including preventative and breakdown repairs

• Drive uptime, efficiency, and long-term asset health through best-practice maintenance strategies

• Supervise foremen, artisans, and contractors; ensure safe and compliant execution of work

• Oversee capital projects and major plant upgrades, from planning to implementation

• Collaborate with planners and plant engineers to meet timelines and budget objectives

• Ensure all new installations comply with safety, health, and quality standards

• Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team

• Manage succession planning, mentoring, and training initiatives across disciplines

• Foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and accountability

• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, safety standards, and audit requirements

• Enforce SHEQ standards across all engineering activities

• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent incidents

• Manage engineering budgets, report variances, and implement cost-saving initiatives

• Control asset registers, stock levels, and procurement processes

• Monitor service levels of external suppliers and contractors

Minimum Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

• GCC Factories essential

• 8+ years’ relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory/management role

• Strong experience in project execution, plant maintenance, and engineering systems

• Deep understanding of mechanical, refrigeration, and electrical operations

• Proven leadership skills with a strong focus on people management and compliance

• Must be hands-on, detail-oriented, and solutions driven
