Job Description

Materials & Corrosion Engineer

Location: Milan

Duration: 12 month minimum contract

Start Date: ASAP

We’re looking for an experienced Materials Engineer to support subsea and offshore projects, ensuring the right materials, corrosion strategies, and integrity standards are applied from concept through to installation and operation.

This is a technically focused role with strong involvement across engineering, fabrication, and quality assurance.

The role

You will take ownership of materials engineering activities, supporting pipeline, subsea, and structural systems while ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.

You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and fabrication yards, contributing to both design decisions and execution oversight.

What you’ll be doing

  • Developing material selection reports for linepipe, fittings, structures, CRA materials, and flanges.
  • Defining corrosion allowances and pressure/temperature requirements in line with project standards.
  • Establishing internal and external corrosion protection strategies, including CP systems and coatings.
  • Reviewing corrosion risk assessments and chemical treatment requirements (e.g. inhibitors, MEG).
  • Supporting welding and fabrication activities, including WPS/PQR reviews and weldability assessments.
  • Defining coating systems and field joint protection requirements, including qualification and testing.
  • Supporting pipeline integrity through assessment of fracture toughness, fatigue, and sour service.
  • Participating in audits, resolving NCRs, and supporting failure investigations.
  • Coordinating with pipeline, subsea, fabrication, and installation teams to ensure alignment.
  • Reviewing vendor capabilities and participating in FAT, mill testing, and coating trials.

What we’re looking for

  • Degree in Materials, Metallurgy, Mechanical, or Corrosion Engineering.
  • 12+ years’ experience in subsea/offshore materials engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy (carbon steel, alloy steel, duplex and super duplex).
  • Proven experience with corrosion management and cathodic protection systems.
  • Familiarity with offshore coating and insulation systems (FBE, 3LPE, PP).
  • Experience in welding metallurgy, HAZ control, and NDT techniques.
  • Exposure to linepipe mills, coating yards, and field joint coating operations.
  • Strong understanding of relevant standards (DNV-ST-F101, API 5L, ISO 15156/NACE, API 17D).
  • Strong communication skills and a solid QA/QC mindset.
